Every time a client thanks me at the end of a case for making a difference in their lives and in the lives of their children at a time when everything in their reality is changing, I remember why I am a family law attorney. There are highs that go along with a big court win, but those are always tempered with the emotional costs that go along with the win. I genuinely care about what happens to my clients. If you care about what happens to them, it affects the decisions you make with your clients, and the end result is one which is workable regardless of the actual result. I never forget the fact that the “case” is my client’s life. It is important that an attorney be up to date on changes in the law. I am a co-authorof the Oregon State Bar Family Law Continuing Legal Education chapter on child support and spousal support. Writing chapters for this reference guide for attorneys as well as attending classes on different areas of family law continue to maintain my knowledge and skills. A sole practitioner in Tigard, Oregon, I have been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1989. Also a member of the Washington State Bar, I work with clients who have family law issues or cases in either Washington or Oregon.
